domino.fm has launched bringing another music streaming service with personalized music experience. Personalized music streams are nothing new, but domino.fm is different. Instead of machine generated personalization the choice happens by choosing music blogs and feeds by users. By this the service is at the same time a tool to access music out of the world of blogs.
This approach is gaining steam, according to an article by Hypebot. The reason is that machine generated personalization is not able to reflect the music taste of individuals with their most diverse and often subtile tastes. The better mean is to let users choose their favored blogs. The music played comes from the integration of rdio and SoundCloud.
During visiting the service and giving it a try, I personally found that domino.fm needs some attention to get started. Whereas at the homepage login by registration and by using Facebook or Rdio data is provided, the process needed to be repeated on the smartphone again (in my case using Facebook). Furthermore one needs to switch to the mobile web, because domino.fm is not available on the web. But then and by choosing genres and blog, the music out of the deep web started to play.
